Lakulish Yoga University (LYU) is the first private university in the State of Gujarat dedicated exclusively to Yoga education. Established in April 2013 by Brahmalin Param Pujya Swami Rajarshi Muni under the Gujarat Private Universities Act, 2009, the University was inaugurated on 23 May 2013 by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat and the present Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendrabhai Modi, at its Lotus View Campus on S.G. Highway, Ahmedabad. The University is recognized under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956.
The foundation of Lakulish Yoga University is deeply rooted in the spiritual vision of Brahmalin Param Pujya Guru Swami Kripalvanandaji, who emphasized that enduring institutions are shaped by spiritual wisdom, ethical values, and enlightened leadership. Guided by this philosophy, Swami Rajarshi Muni transformed his Guru’s Sankalp into a dedicated centre for Yoga education, research, and practice.
The University was established with a clear vision of integrating the ancient wisdom of Indian Yoga with modern scientific and evidence-based approaches, making yogic knowledge relevant, accessible, and applicable in contemporary society. LYU is committed to promoting higher education, advanced research, and professional excellence in Yoga, while preserving its classical traditions, philosophy, and cultural heritage.
Lakulish Yoga University offers academic programmes through two major faculties—Ashtanga Yoga and Karma, Gyana, and Bhakti Yoga—covering undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and skill-oriented programmes in accordance with UGC norms. The University follows a learner-centric teaching–learning framework that emphasizes experiential learning, research orientation, and holistic development.
Since its inception, LYU has made significant contributions to the field of Yoga through quality research publications, academic collaborations, and consistent achievements in national and international yoga competitions.
