YOGA SANGAM

WHERE JOURNEYS MEET

Yoga began in India. Its journey, however, has never been confined to one geography.

Across centuries, it has travelled through teachers and seekers, across cultures and continents, finding new expressions while carrying within it a timeless quest for balance, awareness and human transformation.

Today, Yoga belongs to a global community. It is practised in homes and schools, studied in universities and laboratories, integrated into healthcare and explored through diverse cultural lenses. With every new context come new questions:

What does Yoga mean today? What should it become tomorrow? And what must it never cease to be?

The First International Conclave of the Indian Yoga Association brings together diverse voices from India, the BBIN region and across the world—from masters and practitioners to researchers, educators, institutions and young leaders—to create a space for deep exchange, honest inquiry and shared imagination, exploring not only where Yoga has travelled, but where its journey could lead next.

Set in Siliguri, at a natural crossroads between Bharat, the East, the North-East and its neighbouring countries, Yoga Sangam becomes a meeting point for journeys that have travelled different paths but share a common search.

This is not simply a conference about Yoga.

It is a conversation about its future.

Where traditions meet new contexts. Where Bharat listens to the world—and the world listens to Bharat. Where different journeys converge to ask: Where does Yoga go from here?

THE SANGAM

FOUR COUNTRIES. MANY JOURNEYS. ONE SHARED CONVERSATION.

Bangladesh • Bhutan • India • Nepal

The BBIN region is more than a geographical neighbourhood. Connected by centuries of cultural exchange, spiritual traditions and people-to-people journeys, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal each bring a distinctive perspective to the evolving story of Yoga.

BANGLADESH

A growing community of Yoga practitioners, teachers and institutions is bringing Yoga into contemporary conversations around health, wellbeing, education and community life.

BHUTAN

A unique Himalayan context where Yoga encounters a deeply contemplative culture shaped by meditation, mindfulness, Buddhist philosophy and holistic approaches to wellbeing.

INDIA

The civilisational home of Yoga, carrying its philosophical foundations, textual traditions, diverse lineages and living practices, while contributing to its contemporary journey through research, education, healthcare, standards and global engagement.

NEPAL

A rich meeting ground of Hindu and Buddhist traditions, where Yoga, meditation and contemplative practices remain closely woven into spiritual and cultural life, offering distinctive perspectives on the lived experience of Yoga.

When these four journeys meet, they create a conversation that is both deeply rooted and open to the world.

Yoga Sangam brings these diverse expressions together—not to make them the same, but to let each enrich the other.

INDIAN YOGA ASSOCIATION

ROOTED IN BHARAT. OPEN TO THE WORLD.

Established in 2008, the Indian Yoga Association (IYA) brings together diverse Yoga traditions, institutions, teachers, practitioners and experts on a common national platform.

Guided by the vision of strengthening and advancing the Yoga ecosystem, IYA works across education, research, professional standards, certification and knowledge exchange, while remaining committed to preserving the authenticity and diversity of Yoga.

With 28 State Chapters, 300+ Associate Centres and over 30,000 members, IYA has built a growing network connecting the many dimensions of Yoga across India.

Under the leadership of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Chairman, Maa Dr Hansaji Yogendra, President, and Shri Subodh Tiwari, Secretary General, IYA continues to foster dialogue, collaboration and collective growth within the Yoga community.

Yoga Sangam extends this conversation beyond national boundaries.

THE FIVE CONVERSATIONS

FIVE QUESTIONS SHAPING THE NEXT CHAPTER OF YOGA

01 | WHEN THE WORLD LISTENS TO YOGA

How is the world interpreting Yoga—and how is Yoga shaping the world?

As Yoga journeys across cultures, it encounters new perspectives, raises new questions and finds new expressions. International voices reflect on what Yoga means in their societies, what draws people to it, and how its global journey is evolving.

As Yoga finds its voice across the world, what is the world discovering in Yoga?

02 | WHAT MUST NEVER CHANGE?

As Yoga travels across cultures, generations and contexts, what must remain authentic?

Tradition and evolution. Lineage and interpretation. Preservation and adaptation.

This conversation asks what can change as Yoga enters new contexts—and what must remain rooted.

What can change—and what must not?

03 | RESEARCHING THE UNMEASURABLE

What can science measure—and what might always remain beyond measurement?

Yoga is increasingly being studied through science, medicine and contemporary research. Yet some dimensions of Yoga are rooted in experience, consciousness and inner transformation—questions that may not fit easily within conventional frameworks.

Researchers and scholars explore both the possibilities and the limits of scientific inquiry.

Can the tools of science fully capture the transformation Yoga seeks to create?

04 | CATCH THEM YOUNG

Can Yoga become a way of life before it becomes a practice?

The future of Yoga will be shaped by the way the next generation encounters it.

How can children and young people experience Yoga meaningfully—not merely as a physical practice, but as a way of relating to themselves, others and the world?

If we want Yoga to shape the future, when should that journey begin?

05 | FROM BHARAT TO THE WORLD — AND BACK

What role can IYA play in shaping Yoga’s global conversation?

Yoga is now part of a truly global conversation. What should Bharat’s role be in this evolving journey?

How can Indian institutions contribute through knowledge exchange, research, education, standards and meaningful international partnerships? And equally, what can Bharat learn from the world?

What should Bharat contribute to the global Yoga movement—and what should Bharat learn from the world?

BEYOND THE CONVERSATIONS

FROM PRACTICE TO POSSIBILITY

Yoga Sangam is designed not only to be heard, but to be experienced, questioned and shared.

Alongside the conversations, participants will encounter Yoga through authentic practices, living traditions, research, cultural expressions and meaningful interactions across generations and borders.

Meet teachers, traditions and approaches from across the region and the world.

EXPLORE

SILIGURI

WHERE JOURNEYS CONVERGE

Siliguri stands at a unique geographical and cultural crossroads—connecting the plains with the Himalayas, the East with the North-East, and Bharat with its neighbouring countries.

It is a place of movement, meeting and exchange.

For Yoga Sangam, this makes Siliguri more than a venue.

It becomes part of the idea itself.

A place where different journeys converge. A place where cultures meet. A place where conversations can cross borders.

SRI SRI ASHRAM, SILIGURI

A setting for reflection, practice, dialogue and connection.

The serene setting of Sri Sri Ashram, Siliguri provides a space for participants to step away from the pace of everyday life and engage in Yoga, dialogue, contemplation and cultural exchange.

Here, practice and conversation come together—creating an environment where ideas can be experienced, shared and reflected upon.
