The Sivananda Yoga Teachers’ Training Course is a month-long residential intensive based on the ancient gurukula system of study in which teacher and student live together. The internationally-renowned courses are held year round at our ashrams in locations perfect for the practice and study of yoga. Immersion into a yogic lifestyle is part of the practice and gives the student a powerful direct experience of the teachings. The course is rooted in the tradition of classical yoga, knowledge passed down from guru to disciple for thousands of years. We offer an unparalleled teaching as well as a profound connection to an ancient yoga lineage with an extensive curriculum, including daily devotional practices as an integral part of the course. The student establishes a firm foundation of discipline that promotes physical, mental and spiritual growth and builds a strong base from which to teach others with confidence.

A high degree of self-motivation is required for all aspects of the course. A basic knowledge of yoga postures and philosophy is helpful but not essential. A sincere desire to learn and openness to the teachings of yoga is required. The practice and especially the teaching of yoga demand a high degree of self-discipline and purity. To ensure the success of the programme, participants are required to attend all spiritual activities, satsangs, lectures and asana classes.
